The chosen drive-train for the racecar is a LQ4 6.0L “LS” engine and 4L80E transmission out of a 2001 Chevy 2500 pickup truck. The truck was purchased complete for $800, and resold for $300 once the engine, transmission, drive shafts, computer and wiring harness were removed.
Basin 4×4 of Klamath Falls donated a set of 706 aluminum heads from a 5.3 car engine which will bump the compression of the LQ4 from stock 9.4:1 up to 10.4:1. In addition the heads have been sent off to get CNC ported and polished. Cullen specked us out a CAM and valve-train upgrades that, when all said and done, should provide a healthy and reliable 550 hp!
Engine,Transmission and T-Case fresh out of the donor.
Tearing down the engine.
Removing cylinder heads.
Heads off, and we get out first look at the cylinder bores.
295K mile motor that still has factory cross hatching marks in the cylinder walls.
All in a days work!
